Myotherapy
& Remedial Massage Therapy
From the physical toll of modern work life to sports-related injuries, pain and stiffness shouldn’t be your 'normal.' Our Myotherapy sessions go beyond the surface to address the postural issues and tissue tension that hold you back. By understanding how your muscles and connective tissues work together, we provide targeted therapy designed to fix the underlying cause of your pain and get you moving freely again.
WHAT IS MYOTHERAPY?
Myotherapy means muscle therapy.
If you are experiencing pain or dysfunction, you may benefit from seeing a
Myotherapist.
This is what you can expect in a session.
We will ask you questions such as:
-
where you feel the issue in your body
-
how and when it began
-
what movements bother you
-
how it impacts your life
-
what you have tried either successfully or unsuccessfully
-
what are your management strategies
-
what are your goals for your treatment
We will do some assessments on you, such as:
-
Assessing your posture
-
Assessing how you walk
-
Assessing your movement pattern
-
Feeling the involved muscles
We will develop a management plan that incorporates your
particular preferences, for example:
-
are you ok for CUPPING, or DRY NEEDLING, TENS machines
-
Have you experienced these types of therapies,
-
what it involves,
-
the risks and the benefits.
-
What our management plan is going to be
We will treat you with hands on techniques, which can include:
1
Dry Needling
The insertion of acupuncture needles into muscle trigger points to assist in pain management, and muscle treatment.
2
Tens / Ems
The use of electrodes to help with muscle pain and restriction.
3
Exercise Prescription
Giving clients exercises to manage and improve muscle conditions.
4
Remedial Massage
Massage targeted to client pain or dysfunction.
5
Cupping
Using a variety of suction cups applied to treat muscle pain or dysfunction.
5
Hot Stone Massage
Using hot stones to induce deep relaxation.
90 minutes only.
We will give you strategies to manage yourself at home.
This can include:
-
Exercises
-
Stretches
-
Self massage techniques, such as foam rolling, use of tennis balls
-
Referral to a specialist such as a podiatrist, GP, osteo, physiotherapist
-
Generally we will want to see you a few times, so that together we
-
can come up with a solution and a plan to either:
-
Resolve the issue
-
Understand what is happening in your body so that you can manage it
-
Possibly set up regular sessions as part of your self care
We do not pretend to have all the answers, but we are often able to
help you, if your issue is a muscular one.
