My Joyful Dojo
My Joyful Dojo is an online dojo that began at the end of 2020, after the extensive lockdowns in Melbourne.
We offer live Zoom training sessions that include stretching and mobility, body weight exercises and Karate.
These sessions are Tuesday and Thursday 6am. Kata sessions for grading students are on every second Friday during the term, at 6am est.
We have textbooks available for each Karate level, for students who wish to grade through our system.
Students meet up regularly for in person sessions and grading.
All live zoom training is recorded for our private Youtube channel.

MY JOYFUL DOJO SEMINAR
KARATE TRAINING
My Joyful Dojo is an online training forum, with regular in person meet ups.
We commenced this style of training during Covd lockdowns, and found that it allowed us to gather in the mornings to train together in our own space.
Sensei Lynette has over 30 years karate teaching experience, while also having yoga, tai chi, Qigong and other relevant practices that she incorporates into the training sessions.
Each term is 10 weeks long, training at 6am EST, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Tuesday/Thursday are your kihon, or basics sessions. We incorporate body mobility, yoga stretches, and body weight exercises, with karate techniques and learning.
Fridays we alternate with kata training one week, and cardio/conditioning the alternate week. This is where if you have a kick bag, we train using it.
Once or twice a term we gathter together for sparring and other training.
Our grading system comprises of 4 levels:

Animal Level - equivalent orange belt

Plant Level - equivalent green belt

Crystal Level - equivalent brown belt

Selestial Level - equivalent black belt
We follow traditional Shotokan karate style, with our kata, techniques and etiquette.
If you want private in person lessons, these are available for a higher cost.
We can also refer you to local dojos if you want extra training.
Attending a local dojo is the ultimate. However for many folks morning training is preferable, and you can join us on Zoom as a member, or we have a casual pass you can try out.
Whoever you are, we thoroughly recommend karate as a way of keeping fit, learning some self defence skills, and building your confidence. It is a great way to relieve stress, while building strength and mobility.

Kata and Cardio / Conditioning alternate Fridays 6am on Zoom.

Silly Season Sesssions: December 9, 11, 16, 18
Cost: $65
Casual classes: $30 per class.
Term fee: $295, and we have payment options available. Each term runs for 10 weeks.
Hopefully soon we will have a payment portal on our website.
It involves 2 x Kihon sessions per week. These are held on the Tuesday/Thursday sessions. This adds up to a total of 20 Karate basics sessions per term.
We cover your mobility rotations, yoga type stretching, body weight exercises for the major muscle groups to build strength. We cover all your basic karate punches, strikes, blocks, kicks and stances. We cover some stick weaponry also.
Each Friday we alternate Kata classes, and cardio/conditioning classes.
Kata classes cover your Shotokan Kata practice, and include your Taekyoko, Heian and Tekki kata.
Cardio/conditioning is about getting your cardio fitness up, working on your conditioning, plus hitting and kicking a bag, if you have one. If not shadow boxing is fine.
